Team Point Blank brings home 4 Gold medals from the Ontario Provincial Thai Boxing Championships

We Congratulate Chris Da Costa, Jermaine Haughton, Carter McGhie, and Arman Moshkelami in bringing home the Gold, and the title of 2009 Ontario Provincial Champions. this past weekend in Burlington.

Congratulations to our other competiing athlete Jerico Cabuntocan(Silver Medal – Withdrawn from Final due to injury), Brad Graham (Bronze Medal), Adam Jamieson, Travis Hooper.
In my own case I brought back a Silver medal in the 91+ division with a lose in the 1st round with a referees fight stoppage against my opponent Noel from Training Ground Muay Thai. After taking a hard knockdown in the opening seconds of the 1st round from my opponent’s strong right overhand, and trying to make a comback, but without avail and the fight was halted due to a deep cut on my nose. Despite the quick lose I will definately be returning to the ring in the coming year.

Point Blank was also the awarded ‘Best Supporting Club’ Trophy for our overwhelling support of this year’s championships with 10 registered athletes competing in 8 different divisions.

Congratulations guy and great work.

Big Weekend for Team Point Blank

Competing in two separate events in two days Team Point Blank members bring home the wins. First our kids team sweep their division and win the Gold, Silver and Bronze medals at the Ontario Cup in Burlington. After having elliminated most of the other clubs in the first round it was Point Blank versus Point Blank in the quest for the gold. Anthony ‘The Toe’ Cerqua (9 years old) took the Gold Medal, defeating teammate Ethan ‘The Backpack’ Hyatt (8 years old), Silver medal, in the finals. Congratulations to Matthew ‘The Tazmanian Devil’ DeLuca (8 years old), Matthew ‘Energizer’ Kippel (8 years old), and ‘Jesse’ James Triantafylos (9 years old) who each won the bronze medals.

Congratulations to Jimmy Wu (16 years old) who made his competitive debut in the 140lbs K-1/Thai Boxing Division on Saturday night. Unfortunately, Jimmy lost the fight due to abandonment after withdrawing from his bout after receiving two knees to the cup.

On Sunday Point Blank made its first foray back into Grappling/BJJ with our first adult competitive team participating in the Joslin’s Grappling Championships. Congratulations to Brad Graham who took 4th place in the 150lbs No-Gi Beginner Men’s Division, Carter lost in the Quarter final round of the same division and also competed in the but lost in the first round of the Intermediate Division. A big congratulation to Head Coach Paul Oddi, who with the encouragement of his students, and having lost 20 lbs in the last month took 1st place in the 203lbs+ Masters (Over 30 years old) Beginner/Intermediate Class. Proving that not having a belt rank in BJJ is not a barrier or indicator of true skill.

We also congratulate Brock Sweating, Addison Murphy, and Adam Jamieson for competing in their first tournament and their performance in their respective divisions.
