Mat Monkeys (Ages 4-8)

Point Blank’s unique ABC (Agility, Balance, Coordination) martial arts program for kids focuses on building a solid foundation to lifelong fitness, contributing to your child’s Long Term Athletic Development (LTAD), and providing a fun and safe learning environment for your children.

With our ‘Play as a Way’ approach to training; your child will learn to master the skills incorporated in age-appropriate drills, activities and games. Participating in these drills, activities, or playing, will help them make the adjustments necessary in their skill development and bring them to a higher level of thinking, making play very educational and beneficial.

Our training extends beyond kicking and punching. The customary traditional values of discipline and respect are an active part of our classes. This includes standing at attention when asked, responding with respect by saying “yes sir”, bowing, and maintaining a positive attitude while still having a lot of fun.

Children between the ages of 4-8 years old are in a very distinct growing stage. They are embarking on new discoveries everyday and learning how to cope with all of the challenges. Their intellect, emotions, physical capabilities, and social competence all are growing at a rapid rate. So fast, that they often overlook what’s important and can hardly tell the difference between right and wrong.

That’s where the Mat Monkeys class comes into play. Our program is specifically designed for the stages of development of 4-8-year olds. Over the years we’ve collected resources regarding this age group, and we use that information to ensure our program meets each child’s characteristics and capabilities.

In the Mat Monkeys class, each child will experience training that targets the skills that they are currently developing; skills such as large and gross motor skills, behavior development and character development. These skills have been broken down into age-specific exercises, games, activities, and drills that compliment their stage of development.

They learn basic stances, defenses, kicking and punching from martial arts such as Boxing and Thai Kickboxing. They also learn basic Wrestling, Judo & Brazilian Jiu Jitsu grips, footwork and balance drills, as well basic ground grappling and wrestling positions and break falls (which is how to fall without getting hurt). They will also learn age specific self-defense techniques and the importance of listening to their parents. This program is just jam packed with exciting physical fitness and martial art drills.

Here is a brief list of some other things your child will learn:

  • Throwing and executing
  • Motor skill development
  • Pulling and retracting
  • Stepping (forward, backward, and side)
  • Running
  • Jumping
  • Balancing
  • Rolling
  • Behavior devopment
  • Learning how to take turns
  • Learn how to manage frustration
  • Learn how to be respectful when others are speaking
  • Character development
  • Learn to make friends

The Mat Monkeys class provides consistency in each child’s developmental process. Through consistency in their training, they will properly develop the skills mentioned and prepare them for the next program: The Wolf Pack. The foundation set through the Mat Monkeys class will enable them to successfully transfer to the next program with the proper abilities and mindset they need. Once they enter the Wolf Pack: you will notice that they enter a new stage of development, which is the next phase of their growing process.

Learning is a process. Our instructors understand the importance of the steps involved in learning and are capable to encourage and instruct a child while reinforcing the benefits to learning. Our instructors are trained to meet the needs of each individual and how to reinforce proper development and behavior.

The class includes regular level grading based on individual development and performance improvements, not routine or choreographed movements.

Our teaching method:

  • We do not train children. We assist them to develop to their full potential.
  • We do not condition them to respond predictably through routine technique.
  • We provide the conditions for them to evolve and create dynamic means by which to achieve success.
  • We do not use a win or lose paradigm. We use incremental and progressively increasing challenges in complexity, intensity, and unpredictability to provide the child with positive feedback and “errorless learning.”

We are not there to think for them. We are there to reinforce an environment conducive to the stability and maintenance of independence, freedom, and creativity.
