Robert and Matt – Father and Son “Dynamic Duo”
45 year old Robert and his 15 year old son Matt started at Point Blank CrossFit in our On-Ramp program last February; looking for something fun they could do together that would get them in shape. Neither had done anything like CrossFit before and despite its intimidating reputation they both dove in head first and gave 100% effort from the get go.
In fact, Robert pushed himself so hard that on the ride home he pulled his car over to the side of the road and threw up. Now most people would quit after an experience like that, but Robert didn’t let that stop him. Both he and Matt continued to come back time and time again pushing themselves harder than they thought they could.
The support and encouragement this father and son team give each other is incredible. They commited to training with us 2 times per week in just 6 months. Both Robert and Matt have gone through incredible body and lifestyle transformations. Robert has slimmed down, greatly increased his overall athletic performance, and looks years younger.

While we didn’t take Matt’s follow up photo until the 9 month mark, like his father he showed incredible results in the same 6 month period. You can see he too has gone through quite a change. Matt also played his first year of High School Football, and spent part of his summer training with his Cadets unit.

Both Robert and Matt put in the time and effort to bring about real change in themselves and they should be proud. Way to go guys!
Joe Kicked His Workouts into High Gear
Joe had been training with us taking our Muay Thai classes for about 4 months, and had been getting some good results. When the chance to take part in our 8 week Paleo Challenge came up Joe jumped at the chance of getting even better reaults by changing his lifestyle and eating habits to enhance his sport performance. For an 8 week period Joe switched his eating habits to those set out in the Paleo Diet. Despite people having the impression of the Pale Diet being something to be used mostly with CrossFit, he used it along with our Muay Thai training and got some great results.

Dan Re-Engineered Himself
“We have the capability to build the world’s first bionic man… Better than he was before. Better, stronger, faster.”

That is exactly what this Engineer did to his body. When Dan started with us back in February he had been living the stereotypical lifestyle that people think of when they think of engineers. Working at a desk for hours on end, eating convenience/junk foods and not being very physically active.
With a September wedding on the horizon, he and his then fiance Brenda, also an engineer, decided it was time to make some changes. Putting in 2-3 workouts at Point Blank and taking up jogging, he was able to effectively ‘re-engineer’ his body’s fitness and health.
Back when he started, Dan couldn’t do a single pullup without the assistance of a heavy band, now he can do them on his own without assistance, and has improved his body strength, speed and endurance. 8 months later you will now find Dan running, rather than driving, from his home to our gym. Putting in a hard workout and then running home again afterwards. As you can see he has trimmed down and added some muscle to his new svelt frame. Quite a change for this ‘desk jockey’
Here is an updated photo of Dan taken from our 8 week Paleo Challenge where he took his results to a whole other level.
Paul (Self Proclaimed “Former Fat Guy”)
One of the problems a trainer can sometimes face; is that they spend so much time training other people that their own training gets neglected. Add to that the fact that he runs one of the largest martial arts and fitness clubs in Ontario, spends over 40 hours per week training other people, has expanded and moved locations 3 times in the last 3.5 years, and now has 2 kids under the age of 4. It’s not surprising that Paul has not been as active as he used to be, and let himself fall prey to unhealthy eating habits and gained weight. Despite remaining partially active by participating in some classes, he was no longer training 2-3 classes in a row the way he did in the past.
It isn’t just a matter of knowing how to get in shape and eating right, as Paul has been getting results from the people he has trained for years, it’s that you need to be willing to make the time, work your ass off and get it done. So in January, Paul decided to start the Paleo challenge among club members and use that as his jumping on point for changing his own eating habits, and once again taking the time to get his own workouts done regularly. Although, not officially part of the challenge Paul followed the Paleo Diet in the strictest way and resigned himself to workout 3 times per week. Despite having the ability to train in any of Point Blank’s classes he decided to go with CrossFit as it gave him the most flexibility, variation and intensity per workout in the shortest period of time.
Within the first 2 weeks of starting he dropped between 10-15lbs and by the end of the 8 weeks had dropped 32lbs and 10% of his body fat. This was also done without any loss of strength, despite being physically smaller, and also showed considerable improvements in his endurance and stamina. This technically put him in “unofficial” first place ahead of the “official” challenge winner. Not bad for a former fat guy?
